Cell and Tissue Engineering

Cells are the building blocks of tissues and organs. We hope to control the functions and fate of cells in vitro and in vivo by stem cell differentiation, cell reprogramming and synthetic biology approaches to enable more effective therapies. As the regeneration of tissues and organs requires the coordination of immune cells, stem cells, and resident cells in the microenvironment, we investigate the mechanisms of tissue remodeling and develop multidisciplinary approaches to engineer cells, biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and biophysical therapies to promote the regeneration of functional tissues. The ongoing research in the lab focuses on cardiovascular, neuromuscular and connective tissues.
